For the few of you who missed Part 1 of this FM18 Experiment… check it out here. However, I’ll quickly recap what this FM18 Experiment’s about:

  • Every team in the Premier League and Championship is given a 50 year transfer embargo.
  • Progress updates at 10, 25 and 50 years.
  • A look at the English Leagues, National team, European Competitions and then any other big news in the world.
  • I will make the save playable from every point I do an article for.

Top Six Leagues- FM18 Experiment.

June 1st 2038

So now the current date on this FM18 Experiment is June 1st 2038. If you thought the first 10 years were odd… well you’re in for a treat!

The opening image contains a snapshot of the league standings after the first 10 years of this FM18 Experiment.

20 years later, Conference North and South teams have also been included. Some teams really haven’t had a great two decades…

Enjoy!

Did you think Blackburn and Wigan finishing in the top two in this FM18 Experiment was a surprise? Wait until you see the last 10 years of winners…

Blackburn Rovers

Not bad at all! If anyone can guess their manager in this FM18 Experiment, I’ll buy them a copy of FM19 when it’s released!* Because ARTUR BORUC is their manager. The ex-Saints and current Bournemouth goalkeeper is one of the best PL managers of all time…

John English

That’s the best English team in this FM18 Experiment, but what about the best English player? John English, a regen striker who started the game at Liverpool and was 26 at my last check. Now he’s 36 and he’s had an incredible career!

After scoring over 200 league goals for Liverpool, he joined Barcelona for a cool £83m. John had six impressive seasons for the Catalan giants; he was a runner-up in the Balloon D’or twice. He also won a few leagues! The English powerhouse Blackburn Rovers recently acquired his services; he’s now been there for two seasons.

Even more impressive is his record breaking 154 international goals in 167 appearances! That’s a new England record for goals. However, the record for appearances was broken by another regen: Richard Fuller with 192 caps!

Everything seems to be going back to Blackburn, doesn’t it? If anyone wants a go at overthrowing them, there’s a save linked below!

Wigan Athletic

Let’s move onto something other than Blackburn in this FM18 Experiment! How about Wigan? Five runner-up medals in the league. A Europa League trophy, gained by beating A.C Milan 3-1 in the final! Does that sound tantalising enough?

In the Europa League, Liverpool also managed to win in 2034, and Man City were runners up in 2036.

Champions League

However, it’s a very different story for the big dogs in the Champions League. No English team has even come close! Perhaps this could be a challenge for you to try? Either with Blackburn, who I’ll finally stop mentioning after this, or another team?

Keith Hart

Another major superstar who’s burst onto the scene. Already worth £76m aged 26, Hart’s tearing defences apart at Wigan Athletic. Better than Gareth Bale, indisputably.

Cup Competitions

The cup winners in the last ten years looks like an alternate reality! Teams have managed to achieve success in the cups, despite their drop from the top tier, in this FM18 Experiment.

The National Team

The question is whether Greg Dyke and the FA should consider giving top teams transfer embargoes.

Greg, if you’re reading this, enforce the bloody rule!

England won 2 world cups in the first 10 years of this FM18 Experiment. In the next 10 years, we’ve won another World Cup, a European Championship, and a Confederations Cup! Let’s have a look at who’s had the hardest job in the world?

After Gareth Southgate left in 2024, Nicky Cowley took the role for nearly four years in this FM18 Experiment. Then Steve Bruce had a stint in charge, but after 2 years he left, and Steve Casey came in. Andy Scott is the current manager and we’ll see how he does at the next World Cup! We haven’t dropped below 4th in the rankings since I last wrote an article. Not bad if you’re patriotic!

England Best XI

The Overall Best XI for England in this FM18 Experiment is displayed below. Many of them are regens. However, Harry Kane and Trent Alexander-Arnold made the cut in the first team. Jordan Pickford, John Stones, Dele Alli, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling all made the bench.

National Tournaments

Just for fun, as a bonus, also find the 2032 European Championship and 2034 World Cup runs below!

So, next time the date will be June 1st, 2048 and we’ll find out how everyone’s doing!

  • Who will challenge Blackburn in the Premier League?
  • Which English teams challenge the European greats in the Champions League?
  • Will England continue to stun the world with their incredible record?
  • *Assuming John English ever retires* Does he have a breath-taking management career like Artur Boruc? Or take a back-seat role for club or country?
  • WILL YEOVIL TOWN EVER GET HIGHER THAN THE CHAMPIONSHIP?

All next time. Next Friday.
